Contemplation of the Red Water Lily

Contemplation of the Red Water Lily

Contemplations of the Red Water Lily (2012) 4’ x 3’

Contemplations was one of my first paintings for my mom’s house, as you may have read, painting came out of my mom’s want for more artwork in the house. This painting came out of my want to start with a yellow background and then as it evolved the rest of the painting and the Red Lily revealed itself.

Orange Rose Dreams

Orange Rose Dreams is the sister painting to Deep into Green as they were painted at the same time with the same colors and shapes. I was playing around with doing a series of paintings, and this painting and the other were the outcome of that.

Pink Lily Symphony

Pink Lily Symphony (2017) 5' x 3’

Pink Lily Symphony was a commission for a daughter of a client, and she wanted something in the greens and blues to go in her blue room. She expressed that she liked the flowers of Blooms Afire, that her mom bought at a charity I donated it to, but did not want very much or any orange, which is one of my favorite colors to use, so that was definitely an interesting challenge for me.

Green Movement

Green Movement (2018) 5’ x 4’

Green Movement was painted for over the piano in the house, and I knew I wanted and had to use greens to balance everything out in the house. This painting really came out of my love of green and gold and movement. It was one of the pieces that did not take me very long because the idea was very clear.

Deep Into Green

Deep Into Green

Deep into Green (2013) 3’ x 4’

Deep into Green was a commission for my neighbors, and their only “requirement” was greens, so that’s where I started. The shapes and the little details came out of the height of the painting, for me it felt like diving into a sea of green.

Red Luck

Red Luck

Red Luck (2014-2019) 8” x 10”

For Red Luck, I wanted to start with a red base, and for a while it just sat in my studio red layer upon red layer. I knew it wasn’t going to take much for it to be done, but I didn’t know how much more or how little it needed until I added a brush of gold, and then it told me it was finished.

Be Still

Be Still

Be Still (2018-2019) 2’6” x 3’4”

Buddha was a big inspiration for Be Still, but I knew I didn’t want him to be obvious. As I was painting, I kept adding more to Buddha’s shape, but also trying to let him blend back, and it wasn’t until the last layer of metallic paint did it finally reveal its final form.
